The volcano erupts and John floors the pedal of the car. They reach the airplane and take off just in time. They all look down as more darkness is embedded in their memory from seeing more of the population wiped out. “We still need gas; I’m going to land on this military ship. I know they have fuel,” says John. Katherine asks Daphne if she is ok. “Yes mom I’m fine. Let’s just try to survive.” They fill the airplane with fuel and sit down to collect themselves. The captain offers to let them stay on the ship but John is overridden with guilt about what he has wittnessed and he wants to try to save people if possible. Katherine and Daphne beg him to stay so they can all be safe.
